Artist Statement
I would characterize my images as a whole as bits and pieces of me. Each one of them contributes to telling part of the story of my life and who I am as a person and a photographer. In each of my pictures I love to play with symmetry and composition and lighting, and I think my photography shows that. I feel like I have a particular style. I generally photograph from my eye's level because it is the things I can see from my point of view that catch my eye. I like to show things in a sense as they are, yet as beautiful as I can make them.
I can't say I have thought a lot about many photographers, but I have thought a lot about cinematography, as I generally watch a lot of movies and shows and would consider myself a cinematographer, and I think most of the elements of photography are contained within cinematography. I love to pay attention to the framing of shots and how they choose to orient their camera and frame their shots at all times. I try and watch for what makes their shots pleasing to the eye, so that I may do that myself. Some cinematographer I find influential are Roger Deakins and Hoyte van Hoytema.
Two things I took away from this semester are flash photography and lighting. I didn't really know anything about flash photography, so I learned a ton about that and found it very useful.
I also learned a bit about different lighting setups and how to do them, which I will definitely make use of.
