Artist Statement
As a person who has never done photography prior to this class, I grew more appreciation for the art of photography as I learn more about it. By the end of the semester, when it comes to my images, I notice s few things that are consistent about my pictures. The aperture is low, I focus on bringing out cold colors, having exposure low, and having the focal length at the shortest. These photos bring out what I think is aesthetically pleasing to me.
Henri Cartier-Bresson is an influential photographer for me. When he was introduced to me I was amazed by how he captured the world through his camera. It seems as if he is constantly immersed in his current surroundings. He put himself in major events in this century and told stories through his photos. Such as the French uprising in 1968 and the Spanish Civil War. I want to be able to be like him and immerse myself in the environment I am in and tell stories about it through my camera.
One thing I took away from this semester is the importance of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. I didn’t know what they were and it took me a while to understand each aspect. Learning how to adjust these three settings has allowed me to be flexible as someone who is new to photography.
